TVF internships are eligible for UA Academic credit with most academic programs, and can also be completed as a community internship for dedicated volunteer service hours.
Internship position descriptions:
Education Programs: Get ready to play, dig and plant as an educator for our field trip programs! We offer two common core programs “Growing Forward” and “Dig In” that are fun hands-on experiences for both students and our educators. Work with youth K-12 from all across southern Arizona. We aim to educate students about food production, nutrition, natural resource conservation, traditional and vermicomposting, and healthy living habits. You will get to feed chickens, dig with worms, plant, harvest and more! We provide curriculum and training, all you need is a passion for learning. If you would like to intern with Education Programs, our shifts available are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 8am-12pm.
Animal Education Center:
If you’re passionate about animals and looking for hands on animal caretaking experience, this internship position might be right for you! As an intern with our Animal Education Center, you’ll help with the daily caretaking of our chickens and goats, as well as be a lead facilitator with our Field Trip programs. This position combines the fun of community education with the steadiness of daily caretaking. Key responsibilities include: feeding, watering, mucking out, shepherding, brushing, leading field trip activities and teaching lesson plans. No prior- animal experience necessary, training and curriculum provided. Position availability Mondays-Fridays 8:00am-12:00pm.
Farm Work:
Join us out on the farm and get digging! Farm work days are a great way to get hands-on experience of growing food in the arid southwest. Farm needs very depending on the season but may include row prepping, planting, pulling crops, weeding, pest management, and so much more! No experience needed and all ages and abilities are welcome. If you would like to intern with Farmwork, our shifts available are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 8:00am-12:00pm.
Culinary Programs:
Let’s get cooking! Join us in our industrial kitchen and create delicious farm fresh dishes. In our kitchen program you will learn professional culinary skills, develop and facilitate materials for our Midweek Market and watch our community fall in love with vegetables (if not already infatuated). Our program will contribute to you both professionally and personally. We have had students in nutrition, education, public health and culinary medicine among others. You will also learn kitchen operations that will be a life long skill in your personal and professional life.
Midweek Market:
Each Wednesday, our team comes together to showcase fresh, local, and sustainable produce and support community health and wellbeing. This hands-on role is a great opportunity to connect with the community and promote healthy eating. Team Responsibilities Include (1)Assisting with setup and breakdown; (2)Engaging with customers about growing practices & seasonal produce; (3)Leading food sample stations and demos; (4)Managing basic transactions. By participating, you’ll gain valuable skills in customer service, public speaking, nutrition education, and deepen your understanding of how farmers’ markets foster healthier communities through access and education. If you would like to intern with the Midweek Market, our shifts available are Wednesdays 2:30pm-6:30pm and 12:30pm-6:30pm.
Metal Works
Work alongside TVF’s Facility & Operations Specialist to support construction projects, facility maintenance, and introductory welding classes that keep our youth educational farm running. This hands-on, primarily outdoor internship offers the opportunity to build practical skills using hand and power tools, machinery, and basic construction techniques while contributing to meaningful projects that support youth programming. No prior experience is required, but confidence with measuring, a willingness to learn, strong work ethic, and comfort performing physical work outdoors are essential. The schedule will vary from week to week based on construction projects, seasonal farm needs, and on-site programming, making flexibility and adaptability important for success.
